About the Role

We're looking for a versatile engineer who loves solving complex problems across the entire stack. You'll help build and scale our AI runtime engine, working on everything from API design to infrastructure to user interfaces.

T-Shaped Engineer: We're looking for someone with deep expertise in one area (whether that's frontend architecture, distributed systems, API design, or infrastructure) combined with the breadth to work effectively across our entire stack. You should be able to architect complex solutions in your specialty while still being comfortable diving into Next.js, React, TypeScript, Python, or Golang as needed. Think specialist capabilities with generalist instincts – you're the go-to expert for something specific, but can contribute almost anywhere.

DevOps: Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration is a plus. We're building for scale from day one, so if you've worked with Kubernetes or have strong opinions about infrastructure-as-code, we want to hear them.

AI/ML: Familiarity with machine learning concepts and frameworks helps. You don't need to be an ML expert, but you should be excited about building systems that make AI accessible and practical for business.1

About You

Technically Versatile: You're energized by the chance to work on different technical challenges. Whether it's crafting APIs, optimizing infrastructure, or building interfaces, you're ready to jump in where needed.

Independent: We're still figuring things out, so you should be comfortable making decisions without perfect information or explicit direction.

Open to Ideas: Our users constantly bring us new perspectives and challenges. You should be excited about engaging with different viewpoints and ready to adapt your approach based on real-world feedback.

Pragmatic: You know when to build something robust and when to ship something quick and iterate. You can balance technical debt with getting stuff done.

User-Focused: At the end of the day, we're here to solve real problems for real users. You should care about that more than perfectly clean code (though we like that too).

About the Engineering Team

We're a small crew of self-starters who own our work end-to-end. No bureaucracy or outdated tech here – just a clean, modern stack and the freedom to shape how we build things. As a senior member, you'll have major input into our technical decisions and how we work.

Every day brings different challenges across the AI development chain – from data workflows to API design to scaling infrastructure. The constant is our focus on delivering real value for users. Well-written code matters, but impact matters more.

And where else can you name your servers after Soundgarden songs!

About the Company

Our goal is to help businesses cut through the smoke and mirrors of AI to realize (or not) its true value. Sandgarden is a runtime engine that provides a rapid way to prototype, iterate, and deploy AI integrations. We are not an AI company; we provide the tooling to businesses trying to quickly figure out how to actually make AI useful.

Sandgarden raised $4.5M in pre-seed funding and put together a team of eight veterans who’ve either founded startups previously or worked for them from the earliest days. We are not dreamers; we are doers (well ok, we dream a little). We are collaborative, pragmatic, and outcome-oriented. We are fully remote. We value our lives outside of work and give the space to live them. We prioritize respect, kindness, individuality, and dogs!

1 Bonus points if you can name the model that helped us write this, and tell us which one you’d use and why.
